The Buick LaCrosse is the main vehicle model equipped with the LE5 engine. The LE5 engine is a 2.38-liter displacement
engine, featuring DOHC, DVVT technology, and a multi-point fuel injection system.
Comparison with Other Engines
The main difference between the LE5 engine and the LAF engine lies in their injection technologies. The LE5 electronic
injection technology, where fuel is sprayed into the intake manifold through injectors to mix thoroughly with air before
entering the combustion chamber for burning. On the other hand the LAF uses direct injection technology, where fuel is
directly sprayed into the cylinder to mix with air and then burned. This technological difference gives the LE5 engine in
combustion efficiency, lifespan, and performance. Electronic injection technology can more accurately control the amount
of fuel sprayed, enhancing combustion efficiency and reducing mechanical wear and emission pollution thereby extending
the engine's lifespan. In contrast, the LAF engine, due to its direct injection method, is prone to carbon buildup, which may
shorten the's life and affect its performance.
